Bigelow Tea keeps those who have served our country close to our hearts every day including this Veteran’s Day. Recently Bigelow Tea worked closely with the USO and Stop & Shop in Quincy, Massachusetts on a specially developed Support our Local Troops Program that represented 3% of all Bigelow Tea sold at Stop & Shop stores between June 3 and July 7, 2016 and resulted in a final contribution of $14,100. The contribution will provide support to the USO and the crucial services it provides to forward-deployed service members, military families, wounded warriors, troops in transition and families of the fallen.
“The USO and their mission, which recognizes the huge sacrifices men and women of our military have made and continue to make, is near and dear to the hearts of everyone at Bigelow Tea. Filled with pride and gratitude for all they do, we love doing all we can, whenever we can, to support them,” says Cindi Bigelow, President & CEO of Bigelow Tea. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Stop & Shop on this program and to all the Stop & Shop consumers for their whole-hearted support. Together we accomplish great things.”
Bigelow Tea’s commitment to U.S. military communities continues to grow since it launched its Tea for the Troops Program in 2009 donating 5 million tea bags to date in support of the USO’s ongoing mission to strengthen America’s military by keeping them connected to family, home and country. The “Tea for the Troops” program sends specially designed boxes of the company’s 100% American-grown tea, from the company’s Charleston Tea Plantation, to U.S. military personnel overseas and in the States. The package was created exclusively for service men and women to thank them for their service.
Additionally, Bigelow Tea became an official sponsor of the USO in 2015 and an enthusiastic participant in USO events such as the organization’s 2015 and 2016 Warrior Weeks that took place in Virginia Beach, Virginia in association with USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia Inc. Their invaluable programs bring together physical, therapeutic and recreational organizations that empower wounded, ill and injured troops with a renewed sense of adventure by providing opportunities to participate in activities from adaptive water skiing and kayaking, to deep sea fishing, horseback riding, surfing, racquetball and tennis.
We encourage you to take a moment this Veteran’s Day to find your own way to honor and support all the men, women, and families who have given so much to our country.

October marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Bigelow Tea is proud to “think pink” and commemorate the countless women, men and families who have been impacted by the disease. While we honor survivors, patients, and those who are no longer with us, we also pay tribute to advances made in medical research and patient care over the past three decades.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, with the exception of skin cancers. About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, and according to the American Cancer Society, there are more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a way for medical professionals, service organizations and government agencies to collaborate to promote breast cancer awareness, share information about the disease and provide greater access to services.
While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to put a plan in place to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. This October—and every month—make the commitment to take the steps to protect yourself and your loved ones. A few of the steps that are key for early detection include mammograms, clinical breast exams and monthly breast self-exams. Habits that can help reduce your risk are maintaining a healthy weight, staying physically active, eating fruits and vegetables, not smoking, and limiting alcohol consumption.
In Bigelow Tea’s home state of Connecticut, the rate of incidence of breast cancer is among the highest in the nation. That’s just one of the many reasons why we’re so passionate to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection. This year, we are a proud sponsor of the Pink Pledge, a month-long, community-wide effort to raise funds for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center, which provides medical excellence, compassionate care and lifesaving programs to all women, regardless of their ability to pay. On October 1, we were at the Pink Pledge kickoff event, which included a Stroll for Strength — a walk by survivors, family members and supporters — and ceremony that culminated in the activation of pink street lights in downtown Fairfield, Conn.
Join us in recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raise a cup to those working so hard to put an end to this prolific disease.

Back in 1945, when Bigelow Tea first started, Ruth Campbell Bigelow could only afford a single-color label for her tea. Each night, her son, David, Jr., would help his father hand paint the two women on the original label. Then, in the morning, they would put the tea into the family station wagon and sell it store by store. David, Jr. has surely come a long way since painting labels. Today, he and his wife, Eunice, are co-chairmen of the company and were recently recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Specialty Food Association at its Summer Fancy Food Show on June 27 in New York City.
While Bigelow Tea attributes its beginnings to Ruth and the flagship tea “Constant Comment®”, it was her son, David, and his wife, Eunice, who paved the way for the growth of the U.S. specialty tea market. David, with Eunice’s unwavering support, led the company with a spirit of determination to its current prominence as the country’s #1 specialty tea company. His integrity, intelligence and kindness also helped form the brand’s personality and its success.
“All of us at Bigelow Tea could not be more proud to see this Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed on my parents,” said Cindi Bigelow, third-generation president and CEO of the company. “They are admired not only for the significant impact they have had on the specialty tea industry, but for the positive influence they have had on lives of the thousands of employees whose privilege it has been to work alongside them during Bigelow Tea Company’s more than 70 years. Their passion, creativity and guidance are without measure,” Cindi remarked.
In addition to making Bigelow Tea the U.S. industry leader in specialty teas, Eunice and David’s more recent accomplishments include their significant 2003 additional investment in South Carolina’s 127-acre Charleston Tea Plantation. It was their dream to restore this unique site, which is America’s largest tea garden, and share this vibrant piece of Americana for all to enjoy. Today, the beautiful Charleston Tea Plantation has become the standard bearer for the long and illustrious American tea story and welcomes 70,000 visitors each year — a suitable landmark to complement the profound impact their efforts made on the consumer tea market.
So raise a cup to Eunice and David Bigelow. Without their ingenuity, vision or drive, Bigelow Tea might not be celebrating its 70th year. It’s been the labor of a lifetime, a labor truly worthy of a Lifetime Achievement Award.

For 70-plus years the Bigelow Tea family has kept their eye on all tea-related news and today is no different! 2015 was a wonderful year for the U.S. tea industry as seen below where we share the findings from a ‘State of the U.S. Tea Industry 2015 Market Review by the U.S. Tea Association:
Happy tea drinking!

A new generation of tea drinkers is here! Meet the millennials, the first generation to reach adulthood during the digital age and eager to explore the world of tea. Check out this report from the Tea Association of Canada about millennial tea tastes. Bigelow Tea perked up after noting a few interesting trends north of the border that are right in sync with surveys of American millennials.
According to the Canadian report, younger tea drinkers are ever-curious about new flavors and types of tea. Bigelow Tea’s master tea blenders certainly appreciate this adventurous spirit and are happy to oblige by continually adding new varieties. There are now more than 130! Check out @tiredapplestar‘s tweet about her super-organized drawer filled with Bigelow Tea choices. Love it!
Two out of three Canadian millennials report drinking at least one cup of tea a week, accounting for 36 percent of all tea drinkers in Canada. Just over half of these young tea drinkers are female, and many report that they enjoy drinking both green tea and black tea.
Of course, Bigelow Tea knows that tea lovers come in all ages, and while some seek novelty, others prefer to stick with tried-and-true favorites, such as “Constant Comment“®, the very first tea developed by Ruth Campbell Bigelow in 1945, or Earl Grey, which has won devoted fans like Bob with a blend of black tea and oil of bergamot from Calabria, Italy.
No matter which generation you belong to or what your personal tea-drinking preferences are, Bigelow Tea welcomes you to the fold of tea devotees!

In keeping with the revolutionary spirit of founder Ruth Campbell Bigelow, Bigelow Tea is once again adding to its vast repertoire of 130+ varieties with the launch of a new line of craft teas named “steep by Bigelow.” This premium line of 13 USDA Certified organic teas creatively blends exotic ingredients in unexpected and uniquely pleasing ways. These teas are also non-GMO and gluten free!
“Our new line of hand-crafted teas was created to engage all the senses, from shelf to cup, beginning with the serenely visual appeal of the packaging to the wonderful aromas and tantalizing flavors that follow,” says Cindi Bigelow, third-generation president & CEO. “Made with exceptional care under the careful watch of Bigelow family tea blenders, this is our ‘microbrew,’ rich-in-flavor teas that will enhance life’s everyday moments. I invite you to come with us on this journey to live a life steeped in experiences.”
The introduction of steep by Bigelow continues a cherished family tradition of innovation that began over 70 years ago when Ruth developed her iconic “Constant Comment“® blend and created specialty tea in America. Just as Ruth knew America was ready for a more flavorful tea, Bigelow Tea believes tea lovers will embrace the steep by Bigelow tea experience!
Inspired by the popularity of the craft beer movement, steep by Bigelow teas cater to individual palate preferences. Each of the 13 teas delivers a unique flavor experience by combining such taste counterparts as sweet peachy notes with earthy dandelion, smoky and nutty oolong with delicate floral jasmine and smooth, malty teas with flowery top notes. Check out these choices:
