Leadership, Sacrifice And Courage: Bigelow Tea Spends A Day With Retired Navy SEAL Jason Redman

bigelow-tea-navy-seal-motivational-speach
It’s not every day we get to meet a hero. But a few weeks back, that’s exactly what we did. Decorated former United States Navy SEAL Lieutenant Jason Redman spent a few awe inspiring hours at the Bigelow Tea headquarters in Fairfield, Connecticut, where he personally addressed Bigelow employees.   The visit was shared via live feed to our teams in Louisville, KY and Boise, ID. As founder and spokesperson of the Combat Wounded Coalition, a nonprofit organization that supports combat wounded warriors and families of the fallen, and author of the memoir The Trident: The Forging and Reforging of a Navy SEAL Officer, Jason spent some time talking about leadership, teamwork and overcoming adversity. It was an honor and privilege to hear him speak.

Jason served 21 years with the U.S. Navy — 11 years as an enlisted Navy SEAL and 10 years as a SEAL officer. In 2007, he was severely wounded in a firefight in Iraq after his team was ambushed. While recovering at Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Jason bravely faced his challenges by writing a bright orange sign to hang on his door, which became a statement and symbol for wounded warriors everywhere. It read:bigelow-tea-sign

Attention to all who enter here. If you are coming into this room with sorrow or to feel sorry for my wounds, go elsewhere. The wounds I received I got in a job I love, doing it for people I love, supporting the freedom of a country I deeply love. I am incredibly tough and will make a full recovery. What is full? That is the absolute utmost physically my body has the ability to recover. Then I will push that about 20 percent further through sheer mental tenacity. This room you are about to enter is a room of fun, optimism, and intense rapid regrowth. If you are not prepared for that, go elsewhere.

— The Management

The original sign on the door, signed by President George W. Bush, now hangs in the Wounded Ward at the National Naval Medical Center Bethesda as an inspiration to his fellow service men and women.

After 37 surgeries, Jason candidly shares his experiences and positive attitude to motivate others and to continue to raise awareness of the sacrifices of America’s courageous military forces and their families. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, the Purple Heart, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Combat Action Ribbons and the U.S. Army Ranger tab, along with numerous other personal and unit awards.bigelow-tea-cindi-bigelow-jason-redman

Just as Jason is committed to the U.S. military community, so are we. In 2009, we launched the “Tea for the Troops” program, which sends specially designed boxes of 100% American-grown tea from the Charleston Tea Plantation to U.S. military personnel overseas and in the States. To date, we have sent more than 5 million tea bags to service men and women. We also became an official sponsor of the USO in 2015. We deeply appreciate the sacrifices the members of our military—and their families—have made to keep our country free, and we will continue to support them, one tea bag at a time.

Thank you, Jason, for your service. You are an inspiration to us!

Bigelow Tea Honors Our Troops with a Gift to the USO

bigelow-tea-tea-for-troopsBigelow Tea keeps those who have served our country close to our hearts every day including this Veteran’s Day. Recently Bigelow Tea worked closely with the USO and Stop & Shop in Quincy, Massachusetts on a specially developed Support our Local Troops Program that represented 3% of all Bigelow Tea sold at Stop & Shop stores between June 3 and July 7, 2016 and resulted in a final contribution of  $14,100. The contribution will provide support to the USO and the crucial services it provides to forward-deployed service members, military families, wounded warriors, troops in transition and families of the fallen.

“The USO and their mission, which recognizes the huge sacrifices men and women of our military have made and continue to make, is near and dear to the hearts of everyone at Bigelow Tea. Filled with pride and gratitude for all they do, we love doing all we can, whenever we can, to support them,” says Cindi Bigelow, President & CEO of Bigelow Tea. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Stop & Shop on this program and to all the Stop & Shop consumers for their whole-hearted support. Together we accomplish great things.”

Bigelow Tea’s commitment to U.S. military communities continues to grow since it launched its Tea for the Troops Program in 2009 donating 5 million tea bags to date in support of the USO’s ongoing mission to strengthen America’s military by keeping them connected to family, home and country. The “Tea for the Troops” program sends specially designed boxes of the company’s 100% American-grown tea, from the company’s Charleston Tea Plantation, to U.S. military personnel overseas and in the States. The package was created exclusively for service men and women to thank them for their service.

Additionally, Bigelow Tea became an official sponsor of the USO in 2015 and an enthusiastic participant in USO events such as the organization’s 2015 and 2016 Warrior Weeks that took place in Virginia Beach, Virginia in association with USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia Inc. Their invaluable programs bring together physical, therapeutic and recreational organizations that empower wounded, ill and injured troops with a renewed sense of adventure by providing opportunities to participate in activities from adaptive water skiing and kayaking, to deep sea fishing, horseback riding, surfing, racquetball and tennis.

We encourage you to take a moment this Veteran’s Day to find your own way to honor and support all the men, women, and families who have given so much to our country.

Bigelow Tea Proudly Supports USA Troops On Memorial Day and Every Day!

bigelow american classic

Memorial Day is not only the official kickoff of summer, but more importantly, it is a time to remember and appreciate all of our armed servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our great country.

At Bigelow Tea we have a long standing history supporting our troops including our official sponsorship of the USO. This is a continuation of our Tea for the Troops program, which third generation president and CEO Cindi Bigelow says is “our way of saying thank you to the men and women fighting for our country.” Since the program started in 2009, almost 4 million bags of Bigelow tea have been sent to bases in Korea, Iraq, Germany and Afghanistan.bigelow tea memorial day

Cindi and Bigelow Tea Project Manager Tim Richmond (pictured), an Iraq war veteran, cycle alongside service men and women in Warrior Week’s Ride 2 Recovery Memorial which Bigelow became a sponsor of in 2015. Cindi and Tim will do the same this year along with a total of ten Bigelow Tea employees.  Additionally, the welcome reception at Military Village is presented by Bigelow Tea.  Later in June Bigelow Tea will sponsor, with founder Jason Redman, The Combat Wounded Coalition which will be holding their 7th Jumping for a Purpose skydiving event for combat wounded warriors in conjunction with the USO’s Patriotic Festival at the Virginia Beach Ocean front June 3rd – 5th. Warrior jumpers will skydive onto the ocean front between 1st and 4th street all 3 days. This event empowers wounded warriors to overcome fear through skydiving, which helps them realize they can overcome the other challenges and obstacles they may face in life as a wounded warrior

“At Bigelow Tea, whose company mission it is to enrich life’s everyday moments by infusing passion into all we do, we are grateful to our service men and women, to Jeff Hill and the USO for allowing us to be even a small piece of everything they do to improve the lives of our beautiful troops,” said Cindi.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone!

Bigelow Tea Rallies Behind The USO

Reaching out to a high school friend, Bigelow Tea’s third-generation President and CEO Cindi Bigelow cemented the company’s relationship with the United Service Organizations (USO), making it an official sponsor of the non-profit organization that supports the U.S. military community.

Bigelow Tea first partnered with the USO when Cindi reached out to high school friend Jeff Hill, now the USO’s Regional Vice President for the U.S., to develop a path for distributing 100% American grown tea, grown at the company’s Charleston Tea Plantation in South Carolina, to troops as a heartfelt way of saying “thank you” for the huge sacrifices they make. Bigelow Tea is now committing to donating a minimum of 350,000 tea bags annually to the USO. The tea bags will be used to support the USO’s ongoing mission of lifting the spirits of America’s troops and their families.

bigelow american classic teaThis commitment ensures the continuation of Bigelow’s already existing Tea for the Troops program, launched by Cindi in 2009. To date, the Tea for the Troops program has donated more than 4 million tea bags to U.S. service personnel.

This year, Bigelow Tea also became a financial sponsor of the USO’s 2015 Warrior Week that recently took place, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in association with the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia Inc. In addition, Cindi and Bigelow Tea Project Manager Tim Richmond, an Iraq war veteran, cycled alongside service men and women in Warrior Week’s Ride 2 Recovery Memorial Challenge that culminated in Virginia Beach. This was their third Ride 2 Recovery event.

“It is such a moving experience, and an honor, to ride along with our veterans,” said Cindi. “Not a single soldier had one word of complaint. Just listening to them makes you truly realize the magnitude of what these heroes selflessly do to protect our country. It is why it is so important to give back. I must have cried a dozen times when I walked away from these conversations. Not with pity but with tremendous admiration for them,” she said.

And, she added, “At Bigelow Tea, whose company mission it is to enrich life’s everyday moments by infusing passion into all we do, we are grateful to our service men and women, to Jeff Hill and the USO for allowing us to be even a small piece of everything they do to improve the lives of our beautiful troops.”

Bigelow Tea Reflects On America And Independence Day

The land of the free and the home of the brave … that is America, the country we celebrate as we head into Independence Day weekend. Bigelow Tea is proud to be American-made and American-run. For three generations, the tea you love has been blended and boxed right here in the USA.  Yes, 4th of July is a great time for barbecues and iced Bigelow Tea, but it is also a day to remember those who gave the United States its independence and those who continue to fight for peace and freedom on our behalf.

One small way Bigelow Tea supports those in the military is by sending them tea. Third generation CEO and President, Cindi Bigelow, started the Tea for the Troops program as “our way of saying thank you to the men and women fighting for our country.” To date, almost 4 million bags of Bigelow Tea have been sent to troops serving in German, Iraq, Afghanistan and Korea.

In addition, Bigelow Tea was proud to recently sponsor Warrior Week in Virginia. Cindi and Tim Richmond, a veteran and Bigelow Tea Project Manager, cycled in the 80-mile Ride 2 Recovery Memorial Challenge on May 29. The ride was followed by a beach reception sponsored by Bigelow Tea.

As you enjoy a beautiful summer weekend—and possibly sip some iced American Classic or American Breakfast tea— please take a moment to remember the significance of Independence Day and all that it means to be an American.

Bigelow Tea Honors Those Who Serve America On Memorial Day And Every Day

bigelow tea memorial day

Let’s take time to honor the 1 million fallen heroes who, since the Revolutionary War, gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can have those freedoms we enjoy every day.  We are blessed to live in this country…thank you to all those, past and present, who have made this country great. With our deepest gratitude, The Bigelow Family

This Memorial Day communities across the country honor the brave men and women who died serving with the Armed Forces of the United States. The significance of Memorial Day brings heartfelt pride to Bigelow Tea, as folks visit cemeteries and memorials, take part in family gatherings and line the streets for local parades. Memorial Day remembrances highlight why Bigelow Tea started Tea For The Troops – to honor the brave people who serve in the military today, as well as those who have gone before.

Tea For The Troops was started six year ago by third-generation President and CEO Cindi Bigelow. The tea is 100 percent grown and produced on American soil at the Charleston Tea Plantation, and packaged in patriotic red, white and blue! Tea For The Troops and thank you notes for the troops are two ways to say “thank you,” because, as Bigelow Tea fan Marian Lehner said on Facebook, “Our Troops deserve the best!

Bigelow Tea Salutes The Military and Their Families

bigelow tea veterans day

Bigelow Tea is grateful for the countless sacrifices that the members of the armed forces and their families make. So, in November during Military Family Appreciation Month and on Veterans Day, it’s important to recognize all who have served … and the families who stand behind them.

Every day, the Bigelow Tea family gives thanks (and gives back) to the U.S. military. Since 2009, the company’s “Tea for the Troops” project has been shipping boxes of American Classic Tea to military bases overseas. Thanks, Whitney Young, for sharing a Pinterest pin showing one of the boxes to be shipped!

Now, the Bigelow family has answered another call of duty. A portion of sales from the new line of American Breakfast teas will be donated to support those who serve in the U.S. armed forces. Sip these teas and say “thank you” to veterans, current service men and women, and their families at home.

On Memorial Day, Bigelow Tea Salutes Our Troops

bigelow tea for troops

On Memorial Day, Bigelow Tea feels extra proud to pay tribute to U.S. servicemen and women overseas through “Tea for the Troops.” Started in 2009 by third-generation President and CEO Cindi Bigelow, the program has donated roughly 165,000 boxes of Bigelow’s American Classic Tea to military bases around the world.

Sent as a taste of home, this tea is 100 percent grown and produced on American soil at the Charleston Tea Plantation in South Carolina. It’s packaged in a specialty box sporting the patriotic colors of red, white and blue! Just the colors to remind us of the importance of today’s holiday.

So today, on Memorial Day, the Bigelow Tea family says a heartfelt “thank you” to the men and women in the military, past and present. And thanks to you too, @SandiWoods, for your special “salute” on the Bigelow Tea Facebook page!

Bigelow Tea Is Proud To Welcome Veterans Participating in 2014 Ride To Recovery Bike Ride

Bigelow Tea, family tea blenders since 1945, was proud to welcome Veterans participating in the 2014 Ride to Recovery bike ride to Bigelow’s Louisville, Kentucky plant. There, they were able to see the special boxes of American Classic Tea, produced solely for the purpose of thanking service men and women serving our country, being made.

Since 2009 when Bigelow Tea’s first “Tea for the Troops” box was created, Cindi Bigelow, third-generation President and CEO, has worked with the USO to send more than 3.4 million tea bags (about 165,000 boxes) of American Classic tea to troops in Afghanistan, Iraq and outposts worldwide, in addition to Veterans Administration hospitals and VFW chapters.

Plenty of snacks and thirst-quenching refreshments were on hand when the riders arrived. The previous evening they were welcomed by Cindi Bigelow at a dinner held in their honor, where she was able to personally thank the veterans and pay homage to these American heroes for their brave service to our country. Legendary Louisville native and Bigelow spokesperson Phil Simms was also on hand in a show of support.

“I and everyone at Bigelow Tea are in awe of these heroes. So it was a special honor for Bigelow’s RTD Sales Manager Tim Richmond, himself a Veteran, and me to ride with them for the first leg of their 78-mile day into the Louisville plant. We were all so excited to have the riders join us for dinner and visit our facility were ‘Tea for the Troops’ boxes are made,” said Bigelow. “Showing our support and giving them a warm welcome was meant to honor them but truly, it was we who were honored.”

Bigelow Tea Honors Veterans And Military Families

btmon_Bigelow Tea Honors Veterans And Military Families

Today is Veteran’s Day, the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended World War I back in 1918. Today is also the day that we honor and thank veterans who have fought bravely for our country in all wars. At Bigelow Tea we take this day very seriously. There is no greater honor than to serve our country, and on this day, we would like to show how much we deeply appreciate the sacrifices our veterans have made to keep our country free.

In November we also observe Military Family Appreciation Month. It has been said that, “Behind our brave service men and women, there are family members and loved ones who share in their sacrifice and provide unending support.” We couldn’t agree more. Thank you to our military families as well!

btfri2

At Bigelow Tea, we started showing our appreciation and saying “Thank you” over 4 years ago with our Tea for the Troops program … bringing a little bit of “home” to our troops, and sending over 100,000 special boxes of our American Classic Teas to those serving our country.  It’s our way of telling them how proud we are of them! And this year is no different as we gear up to donate another 8,000 boxes to our brave US service men and women. CEO of Bigelow Tea, Cindi Bigelow, knows about the power of tea. She says the Tea for the Troops program is “our version of a thank you card … one of my greatest joys at Bigelow Tea is the work we can do to try to make a difference.”

btmon3_Bigelow Tea Honors Veterans And Military Families

In addition, this year at our recent 2013 Community Challenge race in September, we asked men, women and children to help Bigelow Tea honor our servicemen and women by writing a brief message on a label, or two or three, that will be affixed to boxes and distributed through the USO. Such a simple gesture that we hope will make a huge impact.

On this very special day, we say “thank you,” to all our veterans and their families. It’s the very least we can do!
