YouTube Famous: A Look Back at Bigelow Tea’s Favorite Videos

Think back to your favorite family home video – the clothes that people are wearing (those high-waisted shorts!), the hairstyles (80s hair!), everything that’s changed in the world since then (whoa, technology!). Well, just like you love your family videos, Bigelow Tea does, too. That’s why it’s so much fun to do a flashback and highlight a few fave videos from YouTube.

Learn about the story behind “Constant Comment®” – told by Co-Chairman David Bigelow:

President and CEO Cindi Bigelow adds a bit of wit and fun while showing you how to make a yummy Greenie Martini. Watch until the end – otherwise you’ll miss the shake-off.

Learn the art behind the perfect cup of tea (don’t worry, the tea police won’t come after you if you don’t!):

And then there was that time one of our employees, Jamaar Wright, wrote a rap for Bigelow Tea (it’s pretty cool).

So, yeah, while a lot has changed over the years, one thing that never changes is this: a good cup of tea makes everything better. Wouldn’t you agree?  #TeaProudly

What Is Your Fave Summer Beverage…Iced Tea Right?!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for iced tea!  June is Iced Tea Month, so there’s no better time to sit back, relax and enjoy a quintessential refreshing tall glass of the iced stuff.

So, do you know just how popular iced tea actually is?  Believe it or not, around 80 percent of the tea Americans drink is iced, according to the Tea Association of the USA.

Maybe it’s because iced tea is super versatile? Want proof? Check out president and CEO Cindi Bigelow’s fun ideas for pairing different teas. This video will inspire you to create your own custom iced tea creation that’s one of a kind- just like you!

Iced tea is also amazing in cocktails, just more proof of how much you can do with it.

How about treating yourself to a Long Island Iced Tea Lemonade after a long week?

BTW, iced tea has its own little list of secret tips to make it just right! You’ll want to be just as particular about prep time as if you were making a hot mug. For example, if you’re making a glass, give two teabags a couple of minutes to steep, but for a quart you’ll want to steep somewhere between 6 to 10 minutes. But always feel free to play around to find your favorite brew- that’s part of the fun!

Don’t forget there are also plenty of tasty iced tea options that are all ready for you if you prefer to stick with a tried and true, yet still amazingly delicious flavor. Either way, iced tea is a no brainer way to get refreshed this month and all summer long…well all year actually!

Bigelow Tea Shares Favorite A Few Interesting Tea Facts

At Bigelow Tea we love discussing and sharing interesting facts and history about our favorite beverage- tea! The folks over at Mental Floss put together this quick video of thirty-six of the most interesting facts about tea. Here’s a few to sip on:

  • Tea is the world’s 2ndmost popular drink. Water comes in at number one which coincidentally, is a crucial ingredient in making any cup of tea!
  • 85% of the tea sold in the US is iced tea per Mental Floss. At Bigelow, we sell a variety of special iced tea blends but we always encourage our fans to be creative and experiment with brewing their own iced tea at home with any Bigelow tea flavor!
  • Contrary to popular opinion, iced tea did not originate at the 1904 World’s Fair. A recipe can be found from an 1877 cookbook.
  • “Chai Tea” is redundant and actually means “tea tea”. We’ve put a modern twist on this ancient classic with Bigelow Caramel Chai.
  • In 1901, two American women invented the modern tea bag. Just 44 years before our founder Ruth Campbell Bigelow started Bigelow Tea in her kitchen in New York City!
  • If you find yourself in Zillah, WA, keep an eye out for the service station shaped like a teapot! Sounds like the perfect road trip to us!
  • English tea parties became popular around the 1840s when Queen Victoria and her friends would host tea and snacks between lunch and dinner. Check out our tips for hosting the perfect tea party here.
  • The London Tea Auction was a staple of tea trade for 300 years. Today there are actually E-auctions in India!
  • The British Standards Institute has a guide for preparing tea. Bigelow third generation president and CEO Cindi Bigelow also has her very own guide for the perfect cup of tea!

Bigelow Tea Gets A Kick Out Of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Latest Tea-Drinking Adventure

If you follow soccer, then the name Cristiano Ronaldo sounds awfully familiar. One of the most famous professional soccer players in the world, the Real Madrid C.F. and Portuguese National Team player has set multiple records on the field. Off the field, Cristiano is no stranger to fame and is known as someone who loves to have a good laugh (which Bigelow Tea can certainly appreciate).

As you can imagine, life as a famous athlete is no doubt a hectic one. And Cristiano proved just that when he had a little fun by recording how many times he was interrupted with requests for pictures while drinking tea at a café with a friend. Within a few minutes, Cristiano posed dozens of times with fans while sipping. Whew… what an adventure it is to be such a high-profile celebrity! At least he was a good sport about it—with a cup of chamomile tea in hand, no less!

Five Tips For Brewing The Perfect Cup Of Bigelow Tea

It’s virtually impossible to make a mistake when brewing a cup of Bigelow Tea, right? When you think about it, it’s simply water and a bag of tea leaves (and the cup, of course!). However, what many people don’t realize is how much tastier their tea can be if they put a few extra steps into the preparation.

In the above video clip, Bigelow Tea President and CEO Cindi Bigelow offers  +suggestions on how to make your next perfect cup of tea. Here are the key steps:

  1. Always start with fresh, cold water: The air bubbles in fresh, cold water unfurl the tea leaf for full flavor extraction.
  2. Be sure not to over-boil the water! For blackoolongherbal and rooibos teas, bring water to a rolling boil, then immediately pour over tea. For green and white teas, bring water
just to the point where tiny bubbles begin to form before pouring over tea.bigelow earl grey
  3. Place your tea bag in the cup before adding the water: While this step is based on your preference, the Bigelow family — who has been brewing cups of tea for 70 years— puts the tea bag in first.
  4. Don’t lose steam — let the tea steep: Retain the flavor and goodness of the tea by steeping the tea (try covering the cup with a saucer). All Bigelow Tea packages list recommended brew times.
  5. No squeezing the tea bag: Try not to squeeze the tea bag when you remove it from your cup. By squeezing it, you release the last bit of the tea’s tannins, which are very bitter and affect the overall taste of your cuppa.

Whether you’re brewing your first cup of tea or have been enjoying tea for years, every drink of tea should be special. These steps should help ensure your tea is at peak flavor and refreshment. Enjoy!
