Keep Cool This Summer With Bigelow Tea

bigelow tea strawberryToday is the first day of summer so it’s a great time to celebrate with warm-weather treats. While barbecue, ice cream, and cool drinks are synonymous with the season, the calories can add up if you’re not careful. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to celebrate summer eating without overdoing it, as Huffington Post reports in their “Summer Eating Survival Guide.” Try these three tips and may the summer games begin:

Choose Iced Tea Over High-Calorie Cold Drinks

From iced coffee drinks to shakes, sipping to stay cool can derail a diet. Huffington Post suggests quenching your thirst with no-calorie iced tea. Since June is National Iced Tea Month, it’s the perfect chance to try some

of Bigelow Tea’s tasty flavors on ice. Some delicious possibilities could include Green Tea With Mango, which is extra refreshing when cold or Perfect Peach for a no-calorie iced treat.

Eat Well At Backyard Barbecues

Good news! Grilling is one of the healthiest ways to cook, according to Huffington Post—as long as you choose lean cuts of meat. Quick suggestion: at your next BBQ and for a truly memorable flavor that won’t add fat and calorie, cook with Bigelow Tea. After all, who could beat an Earl Grey barbecue sauce?!

Try a Smoothie Instead of Ice Cream

While a creamy desert now and then is part of summer, you can treat yourself without overindulging with a low-calorie Herbal Tea Smoothie or an energizing Green Tea Fruit Medley Smoothie (recipes below!).

Have a few summer time tips of your own including awesome iced tea combinations?  We want to hear about it so please leave a comment below!  Have a great summer!

September is that magical month of warm summer days, cool evening air and harvest moons – a gentle reminder that autumn is patiently waiting just around the corner.  It’s that pivotal month when Mother Earth provides us with her most plentiful bounty.  We celebrate National Organic Harvest Month in September to pay homage to these precious gifts from the soil.

The good news is that we consumers are becoming more aware about the importance of organic living and incorporating it into our everyday lives – in foods, drinks, household products, cleansers, clothing and healthcare.  All around the country, farmer’s markets, supermarkets, county fairs and parks are honoring organic harvest.  And in homes across the nation, families can find many fun ways in which to celebrate everything organic. The Organic Trade Association offers a suggested list of 15 ways to “go organic” – for parents, kids and pets alike – from cooking a fully organic meal, licking an organic ice cream cone, to giving Fido an organic doggie biscuit!

Can Bigelow Tea Make a Tea Suggestion, Gwyneth Paltrow?

Thanks to evilbeetgossip.com for the Image

As you’ve been reading on our blog, you might remember that actress Gwyneth Paltrow is a fan of green tea. Actually, being “absolutely addicted to green tea” means that she’s one of its biggest fans, and Green Tea has a lot of fans, for a lot of good reasons!

More recently, Paltrow has admitted to sipping on flowery teas. We at Bigelow Tea can see why. Flowers in tea can have many health benefits.  For example, hibiscus flowers can aid with kidney problems and be a natural diuretic.

So, Gwyneth, can we make a tea recommendation?  Why not fill up that Sunday morning tea mug with some of our All Natural Organic Imperial Earl Grey with Natural Bergamot and Malva Flowers? With a full-bodied flavor and natural antioxidants, you can’t go wrong with this delicious selection!

Our Newest Organic Bigelow Teas

New Organic Bigelow Iced Teas

I am so thrilled to share with you our newest teas. We just launched the most amazing bottled organic green teas… Lemon Ginger, Acai White Cranberry, Original Green and Mango Lychee.

Of course I would say they are amazing BUT they really do taste so good. We didn’t want them too sweet so we lightly sweetened each with organic cane juice (only 50 calories per serving). They are loaded with vitamins, antioxidants and they have no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. But it is the beautiful delicate flavor that I truly love.

We wanted something that had the light taste of green tea married with delicious, appealing flavors. It took over a year to get the exact right formula. Yes, I know I sound like a commercial but I am proud of how they turned out!

So you want to try them… well, be patient. They are now rolling out in convenience stores and in delis throughout New York City thanks to our partners at AriZona Beverages (they bottle and distribute for us — and they are great to work with!).

Perfect for the health conscious consumer who wants a delicate ready to drink beverage… just in time for summer and the hot weather (I think the hot weather is coming, isn’t it??)…. enjoy.

The Pleasures of Pomegranate — and it’s Really Good for Us, Too!

Bigelow pomegranate teas

For centuries, people have been enjoying the succulent taste of pomegranate. Native to Persia, this exotic fruit has been used as a medicinal tonic to both heal and prevent certain illnesses. It’s amazing that Pomegranate, around since the beginning of time, has only risen to superstar status in recent years!

Bigelow Tea knows firsthand that we’re more health-conscious than ever. Medical research reports are cropping up everywhere, espousing the multiple health benefits of pomegranate.  Studies confirm that the antioxidants found in pomegranate can significantly contribute to the prevention and treatment of certain life-threatening diseases, such as prostate cancer. Other clinical trials have determined that the high level of polyphenols contained in pomegranate can help to reduce bad cholesterol levels. In the practice of alternative medicine, pomegranate extract is being used to treat chronic inflammatory conditions, like arthritis.

Bottom line: pomegranate is great for us.  As we embrace organic foods like pomegranate, we are finding inventive ways to incorporate them in our own food and libation rituals. Whether beginning the day with a relaxing cup of Green Tea with Pomegranate, sipping some refreshing Pomegranate Blueberry Iced Tea in the afternoon, or gathering with friends to drink Pomegranate Cosmopolitans at cocktail hour, it’s all good.

At the end of the day, we are giving our health and well-being the respect it deserves. In doing so we nourish our body, mind and soul. Speaking of mind and soul, what better way to erase the stresses of the day than to brew a pot of Organic Green Tea with Pomegranate & Acai and curl up with a good book? Here’s to healthy living!

Bigelow Tea Celebrates World Health Day 2009

Photo courtesy of SEARO World Health Organization

“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve.  You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
—Martin Luther King, Jr.

Yes, it does take a village. As natural disasters tax our resources, we — the global community — must be prepared to respond to emergency situations quickly, safely and compassionately. That’s why this year’s World Health Day focus is:  “Save Lives. Make hospitals safe in emergencies.” As public health arm for the United Nations, the World Health Organization passionately supports its goal to raise awareness of this global initiative. The goal is to ensure that healthcare facilities, services and personnel are trained and prepared to respond in emergencies and that communities around the world actively participate in this effort.

At Bigelow Tea, giving back to the community and contributing to worthy local and national causes is part of our corporate culture. At our core is the desire to make a difference, like forging alliances with tea gardens in Asia-Pacific regions with sustainable farming practices, who — like Bigelow Tea — treat workers and their families with dignity and respect. It’s by promoting environmental sustainability with a new selection of organic teas, and by utilizing biodegradable or recyclable tea packaging: Bigelow Tea is making a difference.

As citizens of the world, we face many challenges, natural and man-made. Still, there is great hope, and it doesn’t take much to put a smile on the face of a mother and her child. Just a little compassion and the willingness to help.

President Obama favors Organic Tea, especially chilled Berry Teas

It’s been less than a month since President Obama moved into the White House, yet he’s been under the public’s microscope for quite some time now. From his daily workout to his attachment to his Blackberry, people can’t seem to get enough information about him.

As mentioned in the Bigelow Tea Inaugural blog post, he is definitely a tea lover. But what kind of tea does President Obama drink? Organic tea! Bigelow’s new organic line could not have come at a better time!

Just a few months ago, when all the name calling was going on between John McCain and then Senator Barack Obama, McCain’s camp accused Obama of being a “celebrity,” for requesting organic tea. Obama’s response: “is that the best you can come up with?”

President Obama’s not the only person taking notice of organics. It has been rapidly growing in popularity all over the U.S., reaching $38.6 billion in 2006. Including his strict daily fitness routine, he’s been vocal about his appreciation for living a healthy lifestyle and drinking iced organic tea.

We hear he likes organic berry teas. Maybe he should try some Organic White Tea with Raspberry Chrysanthemum?

Bigelow Tea Goes Organic

Over the past several years, organic products have surged in popularity. Bigelow Tea has recognized this trend and has created a line of Organic Teas in response to the growing demand. With over 60 years in the tea business, consumers can rest assured that the new organic line will exceed expectations as it has with the 80 plus varieties that Bigelow Tea produces today.

“We put a lot of time and effort into developing exceptional flavors, so our new organics are easy for tea lovers to enjoy,” says Cindi Bigelow, President. “This new line is a natural extension of the traditional purity of Bigelow Tea where every cup delivers goodness.”

Organic Teas

The full line offers organic twists on the old classics and introduces exciting new blends as well! For a more traditional cup try the Organic Imperial Earl Grey, Organic Pure Green, or the Decaf Organic Breakfast Blend! Looking for something a little different? Try the Organic Rooibos with Asian Pear, for a the nutty taste of Rooibos combined with the sweet taste of pear! Or, the Organic White Tea with Raspberry and Chrysanthemum for a unique flavor sensation!

The Kettle is Starting to Whistle

Yes, it is cold outside…that is very good. I can hear the kettles starting to buzz all around the country. Today I am sipping on one of our new organic teas, Rooibus kissed with sweet Asian pear. It is delightful and to me having a warm cup of tea is what makes winter truly winter! I love the snow; I love the cold and I love to hear the kettle start to whistle….I am looking forward to a great season….cheers
